Police were called to reports of a fire at Belmont Service Station, Kenton Lane, Harrow at 1839 yesterday (Monday 3 October.)
Cordons were put in place and residents were evacuated from surrounding streets on the advice of LFB who reported that there were gas canisters at the location. An emergency centre was set up at St Anselm's church and approximately 2,000 residents were evacuated from their homes. Harrow Council provided transport for residents who were elderly or infirm.
The streets which were evacuated were, Kenton Lane (north of Tenby Avenue), Belmont Circle, Western Drive, Elgin Avenue, Kenmore Avenue, York Avenue, Ventor Avenue and Kingshill Drive.
The scene was re-opened at 2300.
The Fire Investigation Team are attending the scene this morning (Tuesday 4 October).
